MAY 2026 ASTROLOGY + TAROT
ROOTS TO AIR
May is a month of becoming. We open in Taurus — grounded, sensual, rooted in the earth that is just now blooming. And we close in Gemini — alive with thought, with connection, with the electric pulse of ideas taking flight. From tending what we've planted to trusting it enough to let it move — this is May.
May holds a New Moon and two full moons — a rare Blue Moon month. Three lunations. A month of planting, releasing, and seeing clearly. This is not a quiet month. But its power is not loud. It is deep. It is honest. It asks us to trust the process of becoming.
WHERE THE PLANETS ARE
Sun — Opens in Taurus (earth, body, values, abundance) → moves into Gemini May 21 (air, mind, connection, curiosity)
Moon — New Moon in Taurus May 16 (plant, set intentions, begin again) — Full Moon in Scorpio May 1 and Full Moon in Sagittarius May 31 — a rare Blue Moon month offering double illumination
Mercury — Enters Taurus May 2 (deliberate, grounded thought) → enters Gemini May 17 (home sign, quickened mind)
Venus — In Gemini to start (curious, playful, ideas are beautiful) → enters Cancer May 18 (tender, protective, emotional depth)
Mars — In Aries through May 17 (bold, initiating, courageous) → enters Taurus May 18 (slower, persistent, building)
Jupiter — In Cancer (nurturing growth, emotional expansion, home and belonging)
Saturn — In Aries (discipline, courage, bold new structures — what are you building?)
Uranus — Freshly in Gemini (revolution in communication, technology, and the way minds connect)
Neptune — In Aries (spiritual courage, intuition as a compass, self-led awakening)
Pluto — In Aquarius, turns retrograde May 6 (collective transformation, inner reckoning)
Chiron — In Aries (healing wounds around identity, courage, and the right to begin)
North Node — In Pisces (our collective growth edge: surrender, trust, spiritual depth)
THE MONTH UNFOLDS
May 1 — Full Moon in Scorpio 11°20'
The First Illumination
Scorpio does not do surface. This full moon asks you to look at what is hidden — in your relationships, in yourself, in the places you've avoided. What have you been carrying? What truth is asking to be acknowledged? Scorpio is the sign of deep water, of what lies beneath, of transformation through honesty. This is a powerful moon for release — but only if you're willing to see clearly first.
Work with this energy: What truth have I been avoiding? What am I ready to finally release?
May 2 — Mercury enters Taurus
The Deliberate Mind
After the fiery sharpness of Mercury in Aries, the mind slows into earth. Taurus Mercury speaks only when it means it. Thoughts become more embodied, more sensory, more real. This is a beautiful time to write, to plan, to let ideas take root rather than scatter.
Work with this energy: What is one idea I want to slow down with and actually develop?
May 6 — Pluto turns Retrograde at 5° Aquarius
The Inner Reckoning (No Panic Required)
Pluto spends roughly half of every year in retrograde — this is not a crisis, it is a rhythm. Unlike Mercury retrograde, which touches our daily lives directly, Pluto is an outer planet. Its energy is collective, slow, and generational. What retrograde does is turn that transformative energy inward. Where do you hold power? Where do you give it away? This is a season for shadow work — not fear.
Work with this energy: Where in my life am I being called to reclaim my own power?
May 16 — New Moon in Taurus at 25°57'
Plant in Fertile Ground
The New Moon in Taurus is one of the most grounded, nourishing lunations of the year. Taurus is the sign of the earth in full bloom — abundant, sensory, deeply connected to what is real and lasting. This is the moment to plant seeds in the material world. What do you want to grow? Where do you want to feel more secure, more nourished, more rooted? Set intentions around your body, your home, your finances, your creative work.
Work with this energy: What seed am I planting? What do I want to grow and build?
May 17 — Mercury enters Gemini
The Mind Comes Home
Mercury rules Gemini — this is the planet in its home sign, fully expressed, quick and alive. Ideas multiply. Conversations accelerate. And almost immediately, Mercury conjuncts Uranus — a flash of insight, a breakthrough thought, something that changes the conversation entirely. Pay attention to what arrives in your mind around this time. It may be important.
Work with this energy: What idea or insight has been waiting to surface? Create space to receive it.
May 18 — Venus enters Cancer + Mars enters Taurus
The Double Shift
Two planets change signs on the same day — a noticeable energetic turn. Venus moves from the airy curiosity of Gemini into the tender, protective waters of Cancer. Love deepens. Connection becomes less about excitement and more about safety, belonging, and emotional truth. Simultaneously, Mars leaves bold Aries for grounded Taurus — the pace of action slows, but the persistence deepens. We stop sprinting and start building. This is the energy of staying with what matters.
Work with this energy: What relationship or project deserves my sustained, patient attention?
May 21 — Sun enters Gemini
Roots to Air
The season shifts. After the deep, embodied richness of Taurus — the growing earth, the rooting, the tending — we lift into Gemini's air. The mind awakens. Social energy rises. Curiosity becomes the compass. This is not a departure from what Taurus built — it is what happens when roots are strong enough to let something fly.
Work with this energy: What have I rooted deeply enough to now let move and grow?
May 22 — Sun conjunct Uranus at 1°30' Gemini (Uranus Cazimi)
Lightning
The Sun meets Uranus exactly in Gemini — a cazimi, the heart of the sky, the most potent expression of Uranian energy possible. This is electric. Expect the unexpected. A revelation. An awakening. Something that arrives suddenly and changes the way you see. This is not a moment to grip tightly to the familiar — it is a moment to be surprised by what you are becoming.
Work with this energy: Where in my life am I ready to be surprised? What would I do if I weren't afraid?
May 31 — Blue Moon — Full Moon in Sagittarius at 9°55'
The Second Illumination
A rare Blue Moon closes May in the expansive, truth-seeking sign of Sagittarius. After all the grounding of Taurus season, all the quickening of early Gemini, Sagittarius lifts our eyes to the horizon. What do you believe? Where are you going? What is the bigger story you are living? This moon offers perspective — the kind that can only come after you've done the inner work. Let it illuminate the path ahead.
Work with this energy: What do I believe about where I am going? What larger story am I part of?
THE CARDS FOR MAY
This month I pulled two cards for each prompt — one tarot, one oracle — letting both speak together.
THE WITNESS — I See You
King of Wands + Courage
Like a pilot light that is well tended — stable, secure, steady, and burning clean. The King of Wands has moved through every experience with fire and emerged not burned out but refined. He offers his creative energy to the world not from ego, but from usefulness and altruism. Paired with Courage, this card says: I see how hard you have worked to get here. I see the creative spirit you carry. You are more ready than you know.
WHAT TO RELEASE
Judgement + Guides
Release the fear of standing as yourself. You are being called — not asked, called — to stop denying what is true about who you are and what you are here to do. And you do not do this alone. The Guides card reminds us that we are held, supported, and accompanied. You are not stepping into the unknown without help. Release the fear. You are guided.
WHAT TO LEAN INTO
Eight of Cups + Home
Healthy and loving detachment. The Eight of Cups does not leave in bitterness — it leaves in wisdom. It is time to walk away from all that is not serving your best and highest, and come home to yourself. Home is not a place. It is the feeling of being exactly where you belong — in your own body, your own truth, your own life. Lean into that returning.
WHAT TO WORK TOWARDS
Queen of Pentacles + Power
The Queen of Pentacles has walked through everything the suit holds — she knows the material world, the body, the earth, the value of what is real — and now she turns that wisdom toward herself. How can you care for your body, your home, your finances, your resources with the same devotion you give to everything else? This is not indulgence. This is power. Take it back. Nourish yourself and watch what becomes possible.
Thank you for being here with me.
