JULY 2026 ASTROLOGY + TAROT
WE ARE READY
It's here. The month astrologers have been talking about for years. We've been building to this for a while now — after July, we don't go back. This is one of the biggest astrological months in any of our lifetimes.
This is the month we stop bracing and start exhaling. The old way is already behind us — we just have to let ourselves feel it. What's arriving instead is something we get to build together.
Here's what came through when I pulled cards for July. Then we'll walk through each step of the astrology.
THE CARDS FOR JULY
This month I pulled one oracle card and one tarot card for each prompt — except the last, where two tarot cards came through together. And there's something striking worth naming: Ace of Cups, last month's witness card, returned this month asking to be released.
THE WITNESS- HOME & DEATH
You are exactly where you're supposed to be. Right on time, right on track — the north star is guiding you home, back to yourself.
Death is release and rebirth — composting what no longer serves us into fertile soil for what comes next. We are not meant to stay the same. Life moves in cycles, the way the moon does, the way the seasons do. Life and death. There's no need to fear the change. We come back to ourselves.
WHAT TO RELEASE- SPIRITUAL CLEANSING & ACE OF CUPS
Spiritual Cleansing asks us to release the imbalances, the stuck energy, the heaviness — to move forward lighter, without anything holding us back. Paired with Death, this is the old identities, the old ways, that simply cannot come with us anymore.
Ace of Cups was also June's witness card — and there's something powerful about that same card showing up here now, asking to be released. Last month it asked us to allow ourselves to be filled, to stay open to the emotional and intuitive gifts the season was offering — not to reach, not to force, not to rush, simply to receive. This month, Spiritual Cleansing asks us to become more aware of what we're taking in. Maybe it's time to welcome in a little more of the void — a time of fallow. To let ourselves rest, and simply take in our surroundings. This is such a powerful new time. It's okay to let ourselves be raw, to get our bearings before rushing forward.
WHAT TO LEAN INTO- STORMY & THE HIEROPHANT
Stormy doesn't mean brace for impact. It means let the storm pass. Light a fire. Get cozy. Let yourself enjoy the creative energy moving through it, knowing you're safe inside it.
The Hierophant is a reminder that the divine wisdom we're searching for has never been outside of us — it's our birthright. When we get quiet enough to connect with it, the answers come. What old beliefs can this storm blow away, to clear the path for that kind of knowing? For trusting your own magic?
WHAT TO WORK TOWARDS- FRIENDSHIP, TEN OF WANDS & JUDGMENT
This prompt brought through one oracle card, Friendship, and two tarot cards — Ten of Wands and Judgement.
Friendship arrived with an image so clear — the World Cup, hosted across the US and North America this summer, and all the friendship pouring out of it. The story of division isn't the truth. We are all having the same human experience on this planet, and connection is the whole point.
Ten of Wands is an invitation to put the burdens down. To take stock of what's actually here in your life and what you want it to look like — this is the only life we get, and we have to learn to enjoy it, not just power through an endless to-do list.
Judgement is the clincher. This is a card of collective energy, revealing what we have to see before we can move forward. Tarot teacher Lindsay Mack describes Judgement as "a slow and crucial awakening, one that can help us to become better and more present stewards of this world."
That's what came through in the cards. Now let's look at what's actually happening in the sky.
WHERE THE PLANETS ARE
Sun — In Cancer to start (tender, nourishing, coming home) → enters Leo July 22 (warm, radiant, ready to be seen)
Moon — New Moon in Cancer July 14 (plant intentions rooted in feeling) — Full Moon in Aquarius July 29 (illuminate the collective)
Mercury — Retrograde in Cancer, June 29-July 23 (slow down, feel, revisit)
Venus — In Leo to start (warm, ready to shine) → enters Virgo July 9 (practical, devoted, in service of what you love)
Mars — In Gemini (quick, communicative, sudden sparks of action)
Jupiter — Newly in Leo since June 29-30 (creativity, confidence, the heart leads — first time since 2014)
Saturn — In Aries (bold new structures, discipline tied to courage) → stations retrograde July 26 (review what's been built)
Uranus — In Gemini (revolution in how we think, connect, and communicate)
Neptune — In Aries (spiritual courage, intuition as compass) → stations retrograde July 7 (look beneath the dream)
Pluto — In Aquarius, retrograde (collective transformation, inner reckoning)
Chiron — In Taurus since June 19 (healing wounds around worth, safety, and the body)
North Node — In Pisces, South Node in Virgo, until July 26 — then the axis shifts to Aquarius and Leo
THE BIG ONE
Outer planets don't move quickly, and they almost never change signs at the same time. Pluto takes about 248 years to complete its orbit, spending roughly two decades in each sign. Neptune takes about 164 years, spending around 14 years per sign. Uranus takes about 84 years, spending roughly 7 years per sign. For all three of them to settle into new signs within about a year and a half of each other — Pluto into Aquarius in November 2024, Neptune into Aries in January 2026, Uranus into Gemini in April 2026 — is already rare, before we even get to what happens this month.
Pluto in Aquarius is the slow end of guarding against each other. Neptune in Aries is the spiritual spark — what am I here to do? Uranus in Gemini is the experimenting — new tools, new ways of connecting, staying human through it all.
Now, in July, those same three planets line up into a trine — three planets working together, the most harmonious aspect there is. A trine is exactly 120 degrees apart, and it usually connects signs of the same element. This one doesn't — Gemini and Aquarius are air, but Aries is fire — which makes it an out-of-sign trine. And somehow that makes it even more interesting: even something a little unconventional can still be deeply supportive.
July 7-31 is the window this pattern goes fully exact. And right in the middle of it, on July 20th, Jupiter swings in from Leo and lines up directly opposite Pluto — an opposition, adding real tension on purpose. Astrologers call this shape a "basket," and it's rare — the same family of alignment as 1969, 1989, and 2020.
Here's what it actually feels like: an exhale. A noticeable shift after a long time of gripping tightly, afraid of we don't really know what, holding our breath, waiting for the bottom to drop out. It didn't. And we know things will never be the same — and now we get to wonder: wait, maybe that's a good thing. Maybe we can actually be excited about this.

THE MONTH UNFOLDS
July 3-4 — Mars meets Uranus in Gemini
The Spark
We already talked about what Uranus in Gemini means collectively — the experimenting, the getting weird with new tools and ways of connecting, while staying anchored to what's human. Mars is the personal planet of drive and action, so this is the invitation to bring that down into your own everyday life.

July 7 — Neptune turns retrograde in Aries
Background Movement
Outer planets going retrograde aren't usually a huge personal event — they're slow, collective, more rhythm than crisis. This one's simple: just a quiet invitation to look beneath a dream you've been chasing.
Work with this energy: Is the dream I'm chasing still true, or has some part of it become something I'm just performing?
July 9 — Venus enters Virgo
Tending the Party
After Venus in Leo, this can feel a little contracting at first — but remember how the signs work together as a journey. Astrologer Heidi Rose Robbins once described it this way: Leo throws the party, and Virgo shows up to clean it up. This is the invitation to take all that Venus-in-Leo joy and shine and find intentional ways to sustain it — through organization, through thoughtfulness, through showing up. Not a comedown. The necessary, loving follow-through.
Work with this energy: What's one specific, practical way I can sustain the joy I've already created, instead of letting it burn out?
July 12 — Mercury cazimi
A Window in the Fog
Cazimi happens when a planet sits exactly between Earth and the Sun — astrologically, the moment it's at its clearest and most powerful. Mercury is retrograde in Cancer right now, so this brief window of clarity arrives in the middle of deep feeling, not logic.
This is a chance to notice where we've been using our shell as armor longer than we needed to. Cancer is the mother — how do we nurture ourselves? And as Mercury, a quick, mental, personal planet, moves through such a sensitive sign, how do we also nurture the people around us as we move through the world? It can feel tricky. It's also a beautiful invitation to let the light shine on exactly that.

July 14 — New Moon in Cancer
A Lighted House
Cancer is the first water sign of the zodiac wheel — cardinal water, the very beginning of feeling. This is our first new moon in Cancer, arriving right after the Mercury cazimi: how do we let this light grow in the Cancer areas of our lives? How do we feel nurtured and safe?
Astrologer Heidi Rose Robbins describes Cancer's archetype this way: "I build a lighted house and therein dwell." It's not just for us. It's for the people we love and want to take care of, too.
Work with this energy: What does it look like, this month, to build a home — literal or otherwise — warm enough for the people I love to dwell in too?
July 15 — Uranus sextile Neptune
In Service Of
Uranus in Gemini was the experimenting — getting weird with new tools while staying anchored to what's human. Neptune in Aries was the spiritual spark — courage to act on purpose, divine love instead of the grind. A sextile means these two support each other, as an opportunity rather than something automatic. So this becomes: the experimenting doesn't have to compete with the spiritual purpose. It can be in service of it.
Work with this energy: How can the new thing I'm trying actually serve my deeper purpose, instead of distracting from it?
July 18 — Uranus and Pluto's trine goes exact
The Triangle Locks
This is the main trine of the triangle. Uranus in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius — that's a lot of air, a lot of movement, finally flowing together instead of fighting each other. This is the same energy as the storm we talked about with the cards: not something to brace for, but something already in motion, swirling and lifting us up. A beneficial tornado. It's not here to destroy. It's here to blow away everything that can't stay, and set us down exactly where we need to be. We don't fight it. We let our hair blow in the wind.

July 20 — Jupiter opposite Pluto, exact
The Handle
This is the moment astrologers call the Barbault Basket — the handle on the triangle, exact today. Jupiter wants to be seen, confident, bold. Pluto wants honesty, the truth underneath. When they face off, the question is simple: are you actually living this, or performing it?
We get the relief of seeing clearly now. But the exhale isn't the finish line. It's the breath before the real work starts. No more phoning it in. We look at ourselves in the mirror and decide, for real this time, who we're going to be.

July 22 — Sun enters Leo
Heart of Summer
Jupiter moved into Leo back on June 29th — first time since 2014 — and it's been the steady undercurrent of this whole month: permission to take up space, to shine, to actually enjoy these lives again after a long heavy stretch. Now the Sun joins it. This is the heart of summer arriving, the moment it's officially time to throw the party.
Work with this energy: What does it look like, today, to throw the party — to celebrate something, out loud, without apologizing for it?
July 23 — Mercury turns direct
The Third Go
Mercury's been retrograde in Cancer since June 29th — and here's the reframe worth holding onto: when Mercury retrogrades, we cross the same point in the sky three times. Forward, then back, then forward again through what's called the shadow period. Three passes over the same place. Three tries to get it right. Today marks that third pass beginning. Review, redo, release, try again. Grace, on repeat — not a glitch in the month.

July 25 — Neptune sextile Pluto, exact
The Triangle Completes
This is the third side of the triangle — Neptune in Aries reaching out in support to Pluto in Aquarius, the same support Uranus already extended to both. With all three sides now exact, the whole shape is fully formed.
Work with this energy: Now that every piece of this support is actually in place, what becomes possible that wasn't before?
July 26 — Saturn stations retrograde, and the Nodes shift
The Axis Resets
Saturn turning retrograde is felt a little more personally and collectively both — and it's a great invitation to review all those Saturn-in-Aries themes: the discipline tied to courage, the new cycle, the actual work of building something real. It's especially worth noticing because Saturn's retrograde motion pulls it back toward the degree where it met Neptune in February — not quite touching again, but looking back over its shoulder at where it's been.
And the Nodes shifting — North Node into Aquarius, South Node into Leo — is an invitation toward light. Releasing the patterns of Leo we don't need anymore (ego, performing, needing to shine alone), and growing toward Aquarius: community, service, generosity, caring for others. When we tend to the collective, our own lives actually improve — maybe more than they would if we stayed focused only on ourselves. Especially right as the Sun moves from Cancer into Leo.

July 28-29 — Jupiter cazimi in Leo
Bask in the Light
Jupiter is folding back into the Sun right now — its most powerful, clearest moment, called a cazimi. This comes just over a week after Jupiter faced Pluto head-on, so this isn't a random bright moment. It's a reset, right after that confrontation.
Picture turning your face to the sun and feeling the warmth go all the way through you. Take a breath in, and let the light fill you with real strength. This is what a healthy ego feels like: knowing exactly how special your gifts are, with nothing to prove. Believing in your own magic, and offering it to the world fully, with love.

July 29 — Full Moon in Aquarius
Tend Everyone's Light
This is being called one of the most powerful full moons of the year — not by coincidence. It stands in direct opposition to the Sun and Jupiter, both freshly reset in Leo, just days after Jupiter's own confrontation with Pluto. The same question gets asked again here, but now to all of us together instead of to each of us alone: what's actually in alignment, and what isn't?
Aquarius is the sign of the collective — and a Full Moon always illuminates, always asks us to see something clearly we couldn't quite see before. What this one illuminates is who we surround ourselves with, and who we choose to be for others. Brené Brown talks about teaching her child to watch for "candle blower outers" — people who'd rather snuff out someone else's flame than let it burn next to their own — and to seek out the ones who protect each other's light instead.
This is the real culmination of everything July has been building toward. We faced the old way ending. We let the storm move us where we needed to go. We strengthened our own light. Now, at the very end of the month, we're asked to do it together — to be light protectors, not light blower-outers, and to make sure we're surrounded by people doing the same for us.
Work with this energy: Am I protecting the light of the people around me — and am I surrounded by people who protect mine?
We are all having the same human experience on this planet. Connection is the whole point — it always was. We no longer believe the story that we have to fear each other.
We get to move into what's new together, knowing we will take care of one another. Our light makes someone else's brighter, and theirs makes ours brighter still. It's more fun that way — tending to each other instead of just ourselves.
This is a brand new day of friendship. We are all here, together. Humans are amazing.
